ARCHIVE - Oct-Dec. 2006
Dec. 20/06 - The
Town Cryers' 1990 & 1991 Christmas E.P.s posted - After receiving
many many requests, those two "Christmas-ish" E.P.s that The Town Cryers
recorded in the Decembers of 1990 and 1991are now available for free download
(against our better judgement!). They can be found here.
At least one of the songs has a Parental Advisory for mature content, so be forwarned!
As the Olsen twins undoubtedly would have said, "How rude!".

23/06 - HOLIDAY PROMOTION! 'Pay What You Can' for "Thank
You Waitress!" CD - Well,
it's the holiday season and here at Flat and Black Records
we're getting into the spirit of things. So we've decided to LET
YOU DECIDE how much you'd like to pay for your very
own copy of John's latest CD. That's right, you can now get
a copy of the CD that "Penguin Eggs" (Canada's
National Folk and Roots Magazine) has called a "landmark
disc"
and "You can punch any track at random on this disc and
end up with a gem" (See
the review).
With things being what they are, file sharing, downloading,
etc., we just want you to have a copy of the disc and enjoy
it - Scrooge be damned! Just make a donation of your choice
(a $4.00 shipping charge will be added at checkout) to
defray the cost of making music and we'll ship it out to
you! No malls, no crowds, no people in huge SUVs backing
into your Volkswagen.... just sit back, grab a glass of
nog and listen! This offer is only available through THIS
WEBSITE! It is a PayPal transaction, but no PayPal account
is necessary. Go to the store
now!

16/06 - John is one of many Canadian artists to be featured
in documentary film - John
completed his segment of filming this past weekend for the
(currently) indie film "The
Journey Starts Here". The film, about Canadian music
on the international stage, will feature John talking about
his experiences as a Canadian musician playing outside of the
country, and may feature a new original live acoustic song.
John's shoot took place just before the crew interviewed Canadian
band Sloan, and the film will also feature Canadian
artists such as Neil Young, Bedouin Soundclash, Hot Hot
Heat, Metric, The Stills, Sam Roberts, and Controller.Controller,
to name merely the tip of the iceberg. Look for the movie in
festivals and theatres in the Summer of 2007.

2 /06 - US Tour a success - After travelling 5,525
kms, through 8 states, and playing major cities such as New
York, Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Pittsburgh, with a few small
towns such as North Adams MA, and Williamsport PA thrown in
there for good measure, John's US tour has come to an end.
Crowds were modest in some spots and numerous in others, but
all were enthusiastic, and John's music has certainly been
well received in America! There are a few articles from the
tour posted in the "press"
section of the site, and pages upon pages of pictures of his journey.
Special thanks goes out to all the clubs and musicians that hired
and helped John in September, as well as to Roadie Ted Burch who
kept the cameras rolling, the patch cords in place, and the t-shirts
and CDs flowing. See the pictures and videos from the tour on the "visuals"
page. A somewhat loose tour diary and running account of what was
going on during these 18 days in September can be found on the forum
message board.
