Last time I played NYC was at Banjo Jim's in the East Village. Great show, and the song Avenue D (from my 2007 album "Ghosts of the Royal Motel") was born from that trip. This time it will be The 169 Bar on East Broadway, just beyond the borders of Chinatown. We're staying in a hotel on East Broadway almost directly under the Manhattan Bridge. The beds are AMAZING, but it's a little noisy, for sure. Bah... who cares, we're playing Manhattan!
We decided to drive up the cost to the NJ Turnpike instead of taking the Interstates that take you through Philadelphia and Washington DC. A longer drive maybe, but a more scenic and less stressful drive for sure.
Then, after checking in and finding parking (zoinks!), a short walkabout in the Lower East Side was in (Law and) order.
The club was very cool, yet the show was somewhat disappointing. None of the acts seemed to be able to engage the audience... it was just one of those nights. So we packed up, jumped in a cab and toured around the city barhopping.
Inside we found Rocky ... oh no, that's Gilles with his "New York hat"
At the White Horse Tavern afterwards.....
And at some place in the West Village at about midnight. They had a wing special!
Tomorrow we have two shows (and probably heartburn)! Fairfield, CT at noon, and Bridgeport, CT in the evening.
