My staff (Rio, my 5-year-old beagle) is adept at answering the door, she just has a difficult time signing the shipping slip. It's a good chance to start reviewing the Google Maps I have printed up for the different route we'll have to take through America. Bell rings, dog barks t-shirts are here. The CDs arrived yesterday and the "advance" purchases have now been shipped. Unfortunately, the vinyl will not be ready for the CD release. In fact, they won't be ready until about June 4th or 5th. So while I may be missing out on some sales while on the road, traveling with vinyl in hot climates is a little tricky anyway, so perhaps it's just as well. At 2 pm or so, I have a call-in interview with Dick Altavista on CKCU-FM here in Ottawa. As usual with Dick's show, "Both Kinds of Music", there is a good level of yuking it up, along with some great Canadian (usually Ottawa-based) music. Dick spun a few cuts off the new album and we chatted briefly about the upcoming shows and tour. That night, as kind of a warm-up to the next month of playing shows, an evening with the songwriter's group at the Elmdale Tavern was in order. Here we sit around discussing more the process of writing songs than the content. I actually tried pickled cheese out of the jar at the bar. VERY salty (but good!).
