"Up Hill ... Both Ways" official release day

OK, there aren't enough hours in a day like today. I send out a reminder e-mail to all the band members telling them that soundcheck is at 7 pm. I'm hoping Tara Holloway remembers that the show is actually tonight and not tomorrow night. For some reason she kept saying "see you Saturday", even after I corrected her. And Amanda Rheaume is coming in from a family vacation in Cuba. I am relieved when she starts texting me telling me that she has landed in Montreal and will be in town in a couple of hours. All the blocks are starting to fall into place.

I have, once again, an in-studio performance and interview at CKCU at 4 pm. This time it is for the "Weekend Warm-up" show with Pat Moores. I play 3 or 4 songs live on the air and a few spins of the new disc follow. All-in-all, I get about 50 minutes of on-air time during prime-time drive-home hours. Sweet.

Time to head down to the club. I haven't played Club SAW since 1988, then with The Town Cryers. It's a decent sized room... smaller than I remembered, but I later found out that they had renovated and the room had in fact lost about 10 feet in width.

We show up and start to load in. It's a tough load-in, as the corridor from the back parking lot to the club is about 50 feet long. 10 trips back-and-forth on a humid day with heavy gear gets the sweat machine running.

Brendan Flynn and the Terrible Liars show up and sound check is completed just in time for the doors to open at 8 pm. Unfortunately, we've only been in the club for an hour... not long enough for the beer to get cold. This is going to be a problem.

All the special guests show up, the room is near capacity and the show is great (except for the fact that the beer never REALLY got cold).

No time to really sit down and savour the moment. Tomorrow is a "day off" but will be filled with packing for a long US Tour.
