Nice short trip down Interstate 71 into Cincinnati. Haven't been to Cincy since late 2006 when I played at the Mid-Point Music Festival there. At that time, I met another guy on the bill, Greg Mahan. We kept in touch and he hooked me up with this gig at a great venue on the North end of town. We started calling this our "stadium tour" because we were getting up close and personal with all the major hockey, football and baseball stadiums across the US (as you will note from the video below).
But before settling in or heading down to the gig, a trip over to Newport, Kentucky was in order. Gilles had never been there, so we parked in downtown Cincinnati and walked across the "Purple People Bridge", a privately owned bridge open to the public... just a short traverse over the mighty Ohio River, into Kentucky.

While over in Kentucky, we ate at this massive German restaurant, drank HUGE beers and made friends with the locals. One of these locals was a nice Cincinnati resident named Lyle. Lyle actually knew more about Canada than I think the entire remainder of the population of Kentucky! You'll notice on the way back across the bridge, I have a bottle of Kentucky's finest (bourbon, of course)!
Then we headed to the Northside Tavern and for the first time since leaving Canada... WE PLAYED SOME MUSIC! And had a late night snack.....
Upon leaving Cincy the next day, we found it only fitting to stop at a Big Boy for a bite!
Off to Thomas, West Virginia... a good 6 hours away! The Purple Fiddle is up next!
