The Purple Fiddle in Thomas, West Virginia
Across the middle of Ohio we went, heading east this time and up into the mountains of West Virginia. We were warned to stay on the highways as long as we could, rather than take the mountain roads, as they could add hours onto our trip. So we stayed on the main highways until the end.

Now I realize that this video is a little longer than the others, but it is trying to illustrate how shocked we were at how high we were going up the mountain. We saw this wind farm waaaay up a mountain... and ended up beside it after driving for a half-hour. We finally turned around a corner an there was this little village in the middle of nowhere, with my name on the chalkboard out front!

The crowd wasn't huge (a Wednesday night in the mountains, after all), but it was enthusiastic! And after the show, we sat on the porch wthi the locals and played Canadiana for them on the guitars, while they played every form of percussion instrument imaginable.

We were staying in the "hostel" attached to the bar (see video below!) and I went up to bed. But Gilles jumped in the back of a pick-up truck and went up (!!!) to the river with a couple of the locals. In the middle of enjoying the campfire and singing a few tunes, one of our new-found mountain friends pulled out a firearm and started shooting into the woods. Gilles joined in on the fun and returned to the hostel at 3:30 a.m. smelling like gun-shot residue!

Have a look at our quarters here in Thomas.... quite an amazing place! Albeit, when they first took us in, I felt like a lamb being led to the slaughter.

A fairly good night sleep (although while Gilles was gone, I was the only person in the hostel... like NO ONE else there! .... and the downstairs door was wide open), we showered up and sped off through the mountain dew back north west to Cleveland! Again!
