Our return to Cleveland. This time we weren't staying in the same ol' fleabag we always stay in there. The room was pretty good at the Motel 6!
But we were a little worried about the sketchy nature of the neighbourhood where the club was. And this time it wasn't the Indians playing in town, it was the Cleveland Cavaliers, and they were playing down the street in the NBA semi-finals. The whole city, including the bar we were playing in, was riveted to the TV. So we had stiff competition for the patrons' attention.
But not to worry. This was a songwriters' circle event hosted by locals Veronica Darby and Chris Nekvinda. And once half-time at the game started, we were able to grab enough attention to start things up. And it was a surprisingly good show!
The aftermath was a bit dicey. Going out to the car we noticed a mob coming from the basketball game. Cleveland won that night and spirits were high, so a group of youths decided to tip over a massive dumpster, not far from my car. Well, we hightailed it out of there and picked up a 12 pack for the hotel. Cleveland is a wonderful place and a really great rock and roll town, but we were ready to leave.
